The Grange Wine Merchants Autumn Series starts on Sunday 17th September and runs until Sunday 29th October.
Weather permitting, the first three Sundays will have two back-to-back Windward/Leeward races with a Round the Lough style course on 8th October, followed on 15th and 22nd with more Windward/Leewards, finishing with a Round the Lough on 29th.
Once again we are indebted to Tom Bell and Grange Wine Merchants for their generous sponsorship of the Autumn Series and this has enabled us to run the event with no entry fee. Race documents are on the event page on this web site and note that competitors MUST complete an Entry Form and submit to sailingsecretary@ruyc.uk.
This year, RUYC celebrated its 150th Anniversary. As part of this, a new history of the Club has been written by incoming Rear Commodore Ed Wheeler
The book will launch on 30th November 2016 at 20.30 in the Gloucester Room where you will get the chance to meet the author and hear a short illustrated talk with an opportunity to ask any questions.
The book drew on a number of sources, not least the previous history written by Prof. James Nixon in 1999. Information has been trawled from minute books and scrap books dating back to the formation of the Club, from newspaper reports, from contemporary publications, newsletters and the reminiscences of members. The new history takes advantage of modern printing technology to include many more photographs, in full colour where available. It is a hardback volume in A4 portrait format.
This book is an indispensable guide to the Royal Ulster Yacht Club and will also make a fine Christmas present for anyone interested in the background to sailing in Bangor and Belfast Lough.
This A4 portrait hardback book is available for sale at the attractive price of £15 and will be signed by the author on request at the launch.
