The health and wellbeing benefits of yarn and needle crafting:
Knitting, crochet, embroidery, needlepoint, cross-stitch, tatting and rug making all involve some sort of needle o tool and thread or yarn to create something. It can make you feel calm and happy. The rhythmic, repetitive movements necessary have therapeutic benefits for physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing!
- It can reduce blood pressure
- It can delay memory loss
- It can relieve symptoms of depression
- It can help manage anxiety
- It can build self-esteem
- It develops focus and concentration
- It enhances critical thinking
- It increases hand-eye co-ordination
- It increases small motor skills
- It’s even better to do it as a group as it connects people and builds a supportive community; and it’s fun
