RUYC 2020 Golf Championship
Last Fridays golfing outing or to give it its formal title "the RUYC 2020 Golfing Championship” was a spectacular success. Despite a dodgy forecast, the sun came out at "Tee Off" time. Thank you all for taking part and making it such an enjoyable occasion. So many of our Club’s events have had to be cancelled owing to the Coronavirus situation, it was a great relief we were able to go ahead with the competition.
These events cannot take place without a considerable amount of organisation behind the scenes Rear Commodore Maurice Butler paid tribute to Garth Maxwell: "A special thanks to our Honorary Secretary Garth who despite his already busy schedule found time to arrange such a well-planned gathering of golfing enthusiasts and carry it through to the evening dinner and prize giving".
A special mention to Tom Bell from Grange Wines for sponsoring the event and to our Lady Starter Wendy Barlow.
The results are as follows:
Helen Murray managed to retain her trophy with another solid performance and is the Lady Championship Golfer of 2020. Alex Ward tried hard to retain his trophy but a shaky front nine let his playing partner, Robin Moran, sneak ahead of him to lift this year's Male Championship Golfer of 2020. Runners up were Diane Moran and Phillip Mooney. Arlette Maginess took the ladies visitor prize and Kenny Campbell the men's visitor.
