Le Domaine du Grapillon d’Or Merlot, 2016.

    Tasting Notes.

Le Domaine du Grapillon d’Or evokes an authentic and beautiful family history. Created in 1806, the property has always  remained in the hands of the Chauvet family.

For the past 40 years, Bernard has managed and successfully developed the wine estate. He has been assisted by his daughter, Céline, for 20 years. Céline manages the delicate process of vinification as well as the business management of the estate.

The vineyard is situated about 3 kilometres from Gigondas and the soil is clayish-limestone.

The wine is a blend of Merlot 80% and Caladoc 20% (Caladoc is a cross between Grenache and Côt (see) Malbec.

It's a lively and fruity wine for drinking every day or with friends. It shows both a ripe cassis and an edge of cassis leaf, then fresh red fruit. Juicy, straight-forward but with that wonderful fresh dry style.

"A blend of Merlot (80%) and Caladoc (20%), the 2016 Vin de Pays de Vaucluse is a grapey, medium-bodied red, ideal for bistro by-the-glass service or casual weeknight meals at home. Fresh and fruity, with negligible tannins, it goes down easily enough that if you're not careful, you'll be reaching for a second bottle."

(Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate, 31st of August 2018)
