Push the Boat Out 2018

Posted: 6/6/2018

Yachts Nancy M, Merryjack, Giggle and Mandolin Wind took the participants along Bangor’s picturesque coastline towards Grey Point and back to Bangor Marina in a testing 20 knot Northerly on the 16th. The 23rd was a little less blustery 3 knots of breeze from the East. Giggle, Merryjack and Final Call took the smiling participants towards South Briggs Buoy and back, with several yachts even flying a Spinnaker on the return leg!

After packing the sails away on the 23rd, the participants were welcomed to RUYC for a tour of the Club and to watch the sun set on a fine evening over Belfast Lough.

Andrea commented, “I thought it was an amazing experience from start to finish! I had never been sailing before and learnt a lot! The two guys, Gerry and Brian were great craic too! All in all it is a very cool thing the Club are doing to try and get more people out on the water. I’ve been spreading the word already about how much fun it was :-) “

It is hoped this event will run again next May, and I would encourage anybody looking to help out to get in touch with Chris Stewart if you are keen to get involved. Likewise, if you have any friends or family that might like the opportunity to take part as participants next year, please spread the word.

As a result of the event, we now have a list of persons who have expressed serious interest in taking part in more sailing. If you are looking for some enthusiastic, trainable crew, please let me know and I’ll put you in touch.

Lastly, a huge thanks to all the boat owners, crew, rescue and tour guide for helping promote our amazing sport.

Yours in Sailing,

Chris Stewart

Training Officer
