Peter Ronaldson was Rear Commodore.

It was decided not award the Sir Thomas Lipton Memorial Trophy as there was only one challenger for the America's Cup this year.  Not only that, but as Ed writes, "the Club would not have wished to be associated with a competition held under such acrimony, when, after a unsuccessful court case was brought by the New Zealand challenger, the San Diego Yacht Club defended the the Cup with a catamaran against a monohull."  This action effectively ended the era of the graceful 12 metre yachts.
