Cruising Association of Ireland Visit to Bangor

Information on visit of Cruising Association of Ireland to Belfast Lough

Over the first week in July a fleet of 13 boats from the Cruising Association of Ireland will visit Belfast Lough. They will be in Bangor from Monday 3rd till the morning of Wednesday 5th when they will head to Belfast. Cruising Convenor David Meeke and Betty Armstrong have put together some events for the crews.

Kevin Baird, Manager of Quay Marinas Bangor has kindly offered to host a Barbecue for the visitors on the Monday evening and on the Tuesday morning the crews will attend a reception by the Mayor, Councillor Robert Adair, in the Town Hall in Bangor followed by a tour of the Walled Garden. That evening they will be at the Club for a Buffet mea 

On Wednesday 5th the fleet makes its way to Belfast Harbour Marina in the morning and in the afternoon will have a guided tour of the Belfast Harbour Office. On 6th the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Nuala McAlister, will welcome the crews to the City Hall for a reception and guided tour. 

The fleet then makes its way to Carrickfergus.

Leading the fleet, which comprises boats from as far south as Wexford, will be Clifford Brown, Commodore CAI. Clifford is amember of Howth Yacht club and Ex Commodore of Kilbarrack Sailing Club and Carlingford Sailing Club. As well as sailing he enjoys golf, theatre and walking. Also visiting will be John Leahy, Hon Secretary CAI.John is a member of the Royal Irish Yacht Club Dun Laoghaire. He was a Jumbo Jet airline pilot with British Airways and has been Training auditor/advisor with Ryanair for 8 years. He says he is currently trying to retire fully and get sailing more!
