By now past and current General Committee members and current Sub-Committee members should have received invitations to the Committee dinner on Friday 27th September. Please confirm with the Office if you are attending The evening will include the presentation of 50-year membership awards.

We have acquired a very entertaining after-dinner speaker for the event. Liam Beckett.

Born in Ballymoney, a Plumber by trade, his passion has always been football and motorcycle road racing. Liam had the skill to indulge his passion for football and played many years at Irish League level for Crusaders and Coleraine as well as Drogheda in the League of Ireland going on to win every honour at Senior level in the Irish League before furthering his career in football this time in management at Cliftonville and Institute. Turning his attention to fast bikes, in 1988 he became the late Robert Dunlop’s motorcycle road race mechanic and mentor. Liam documented this extraordinary partnership with Robert by writing an autobiography called “Full Throttle”. A follow up book is due out later this year.

Still very much involved with sport, Liam is currently a Sunday Life sports columnist and BBC Radio Ulster sports commentator. Even though Liam leads a very busy life he still finds time to do good work for charity and is involved with a number of local fundraisers, he is a patron of the Harry Gregg Foundation, C.A.N. (Compass Advocacy Network) and is also an ambassador for The Samaritans. Not to mention his annual Black Santa Cross Community Christmas charity sit out connection which he has been doing for the last 11 years. Liam was awarded an MBE in the Queens New Years Honours List for services to sport and the voluntary sector and received his decoration at Buckingham Palace in March 2018.

The dinner is filling well, book through the office on 02891270568.
